The case of the pencil is engraved with the name :A. Bassler (Referring to Dr. Anthony Bessler - Accompanying collection item featured in lot 0081.)
When extended the pencil features an engraving of maker: Tiffany & Co. 18 (Acid Tested Positively For Sold 14 Karat Gold)
Provenance: From The Estate of Anthony Bassler (1874 – 1959), American gastroenterologist.
Bassler was the first chairman of the section on Gastroenterology and Proctology of the American Medical Association; past president of the New York Gastroenterological Association (which he founded); and past President of the National Gastroenterological Association. He published 6 text books and more than 300 monographs dealing chiefly with digestive diseases and abdominal conditions. Eponymously remembered for his description of Bassler sign in 1913, an examination method to assist in diagnosing chronic appendicitis
